TYPES OF BURNING THAT DOESN’T REQUIRE A BURN PERMIT
Burn Barrel
Wind speeds must be below 15 mph during burning hours.
Limbs, branches, and any legal document may be burned.
The burn barrel must have a barrier to catch any floating embers or ash such as a wire cover or solid covering.
The burn barrel must be metal and solid in structure and there should be no holes in the barrel to allow debris or embers to fall on the surface and cause a fire hazard. It is preferred the barrel be placed on a rock foundation as to not cause the heat of the barrel to catch underlying debris on fire.

Burning in a burn barrel is not allowed during a burn ban.
Cooking Fires/Ceremonial Fires

The burn area must be encircled for example by a metal ring, rocks, or a sufficient barrier as to not spread the fire.
The fire ring may only be 3 feet in diameter and the fire is only allowed to be 2 feet in height.

9.43.070 - Burning guidelines.
All allowed acts and variances must follow these guidelines:
Only wood products or other pre-approved material may be burned.
Fires shall be attended at all times until completely extinguished and all cold.
Burning shall occur only in daylight hours with the exception of rallies and recreational or ceremonial fires.
If a fire creates an air pollution problem, a nuisance or a fire hazard, it shall be extinguished.
No burning shall be conducted during unfavorable meteorological conditions such as temperature inversions, high winds, air stagnation, etc.
All persons during burning shall have sufficient fire suppression equipment present.
Burning must be in compliance with any state and/or local burn bans.
2.20.140 – Refuse burning—Approved cover.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to burn sweepings, trash, lumber, leaves, straw or other combustible material in any refuse burner that does not have an approved type cover. An approved type cover is defined as one that will prevent the scattering of burn embers. (Ord. 482 § 1 (part), 1973.)
2.20.150 – Refuse burning—Time.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to burn refuse as herein specified, at any time except between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Any person setting out a fire shall see that the same is completely extinguished before the hour of sunset. (Ord. 482 § 1 (part), 1973.)
2.20.160 - Bonfires.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to set out bonfires without the specific permission of the fire chief of the city, as to the place and time of setting such fire. (Ord. 482 § 1 (part), 1973.)
