[ARCHIVED] Flood Awareness Education: Insure your property for your flood hazard

Did you know that the City of Valley Center participates in the Community Rating System (CRS) program? CRS is part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). By participating in this program, Valley Center residents living in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) can receive a discount on their flood insurance premiums (ask your insurance agent for more details on this discount). A part of this program includes an Outreach Project that is geared towards raising Flood Awareness.

3 Fast Flood Insurance Facts:

*Floods are the nation’s most common and costly natural disaster and cause millions of dollars in damage every year.

*Homeowners and renters insurance does not typically cover flood damage.

*You may be required to have flood insurance. Congress has mandated federally regulated or insured lenders to require flood insurance on mortgaged properties that are located in areas at high risk of flooding. But even if your property is not in a high risk flood area, your mortgage lender may still require you to have flood insurance.
