In 2015, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began the process of updating all of the floodplain maps for Sedgwick County. The new floodplain maps have been approved by FEMA and are currently in the process of being formally adopted by the City of Valley Center. These new maps will become effective on December 22, 2016, and are accessible to the public via the following website: https://gismaps.sedgwickcounty.org/mabcd/fema/. The Valley Center Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on formally adopting the new floodplain maps on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 7:00 PM at City Hall. Once recommendation is made for adoption of the new maps by the Planning Commission, the Valley Center City Council will formally adopt the new floodplain maps into the existing City Code. Additional information regarding floodplains can be found on the City of Valley Center’s website: http://www.valleycenterks.org/103/Floodplain.
