[ARCHIVED] Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9th thru Oct.15th

HISTORY

Fire Prevention Week began as a result of the Great Chicago Fire on Oct. 9th 1871. Fifty years later President Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation for the observance of National Fire Prevention Day. Since 1925, the President has signed a proclamation each year declaring the week of October 9th as National Fire Prevention Week.

HOW DO WE SPREAD THE WORD?

During Fire Prevention Week members of the Valley Center Fire Department travel to our public schools spreading the message of fire safety and prevention.

We hold an open house at the Fire Station between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10th thru Thursday, October 13th.

We encourage our citizens to come and get to know your local firefighters, tour the station, and ask us questions.

We have brochures for adults and for the children we have balloons, fire helmets, and activity books.

We are located at 616 E. 5th Street at the Public Safety building if you would like to attend.
